A united group of states for defence purposes was what unified Italy. the groups of stick, or fasces, that are weak single but strong as a group was the concept. Ideally each state was a democracy, like the USA and they form a strong united group with no dictatorship. USSR, Nazi germany and italy under Mussolini were not democracies, but got called facist states. It is a name that has tained nationalism since then. nothing wrong with nationalism, as long as there is majority vote elections in there. bill
