Mark: You raise an important point. It is the service carriers that are mandating the migration from PDC, GSM, and CDMA to 3G PDC/CDMA, GSM/UMTS, and CDMA/CDMA2000. They are the real customers for wireless phones.

Remember the transistion from analog to digital. Motorola thought people would not want digital cell phones because they had analog phones. However, the wireless service providers stopped buying analog cell phones from the wireless manufacturers.

It has taken way too long, but now CDMAONE phones are becoming relics. CDMA2000 phones will replace 100% of the CDMAONE phones being sold by the end of the year. Dual mode PDC/WCDMA phones will give DoCoMo the incentive to phase out PDC phones with 3G dual mode models.

No messages from Dipy tonight. His mom must have made him go to bed early.
