The lower speeds were introduced more recently.

The slower chips are the newer chips.

It could also be that the process that produced the earlier, fast chips had poor yields and the newer process, which is producing more chips from better yields also has lower binsplits.

Or it could just be marketing. But the product releases don't support the notion that binsplits have improved, quite the opposite, in fact.

Elmer, the Thoroughbred won't be released at speed grades less than the Palomino. Why is the N'wood released at speedgrades less than the Willamette?
