Wealth will only spread as countries adopt civilized government and communities abandon the found-wealth and 'share out the wealth' cargo-cult mentalities. Of course, even in the absence of civilisation, people in the most barbaric countries get an increase in wealth [as measured by quality of life rather than money in the bank] because they can buy the products of the civilized world, such as CDMA phones, cars, genetically engineered grains, vaccinations and the like. Countries like the USA maintain their wealth-producing qualities while barbaric cultures like Islam, dictatorships, kleptocracies and socialism stay in poverty and refuse to see why they are impoverished. They prefer to blame the rich world or the British imperialists - from half a century ago; Japan, Germany and Singapore did okay and look at their background, so it shows 50 years is more than enough time to recover from anything. I think we'll see an increasing gap between rich and poor countries because the poor ones don't understand what makes a clock tick. They look for magic or a Mullah or something. Of course there are some individuals in the poor countries who can say what the reasons are, but they are subsumed by the ignorant hordes. So they give up and go and live in the civilized world. Which of course means the place they leave gets worse as the ratio of cargo-cultists to sense increases. Mqurice
