Bush Inc. will not be in favor of this idea.
They will have to be forced by public opinion and they will resist until the bitter end.

The current energy bill does not lessen Saudi purchases, but only increases domestic production, which has an indirect effect, many, many years from now. The Bush tie-in with Saudis guarantess their opposition to this idea of allowing consumers a choice.

The gasoline retailer CEO who does this first will be subject to death threats by Saudi and US interests who profit from the current arrangement to the tune of billions.

It will have to be done independent of any Beltway support.

Once it has started to snowball, domestic and non-ME producers will pile on and current producers will find ways to profit handsomely. But they will do everything possible to prevent the occurance, until fait acompli.

The Europeans will catch the wave... a prediction. We'll see, if it does occur, if they do. I'll give odds on it.

The only way to prevent snowballing, if it happens, is to tie the effort to some disgusting source, like terrorists, or child molesters, or the devil, or something.
