Nasar, Sylvia, Author (1999-)

Ms. Nasar discussed her book A Beautiful Mind, published by Touchstone Books. The book chronicles the life of John Nash who was considered one of the most brilliant mathematicians of his generation. Towards the end of the 1950s, Nash was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was plagued by the disease for years. John Nash had seemingly disappeared until 1994 when, in remission from the disease, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics for his thesis on game theory, which he had developed almost forty-five years previously. During the event, hosted by the NARSAD (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression), Ms. Nasar provided more information on schizophrenia and on John Nash, and then took questions from the audience.
