I don't think that saving Arafat's ass is going to be high on Bush's agenda

I agree that America is concentrating on getting its ducks in a row for the Iraqi campaign. Troops and supplies are quietly being moved into Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Kuwait and Georgia.

But conversely, the US has ordered Sharon to keep things off the top of the headlines; if not quiet, at least no major blowups. Arafat knows he has temporary immunity and is trying to use it to bring down Sharon's government, or force an Israeli capitulation or international monitors. So we will see Palestinian esclations, especially of guerilla tactics, and corresponding Israeli escalations in reprisal.

Much of what happens on the level of the terror casualties, which largely depends on luck. Though the papers speak as if the Palestinians were switching from suicide bombers to guerilla tactics, the IDF says it's not true, they just happened to stop the suicide bombers of the last week before they could inflict mass casualties.

BTW, didn't I say that the New York Times would continue to give Prince Abdullah credit for his "offer" even though he's publicly announced that he does not intend to propose it to the Arab League? Haaretz confirmed debka's report.
