Monica, >How do you explain the fact that AMD's lower power Athlon devices haven't yet been selected for blade servers by any of the leading blade server manufacturers?

Possibly nobody on this thread will pick up on this, but the answer is because AMD doesn't have any chips anywhere close to the low power requirements of blade servers.

Monica, Just web rumours and hints that samples are being looked at.

As for the use by leading blade makers, there are innovative blade makers that are using AMD parts, perhaps one day the leaders will see this and see their success(if) and then place them into blades.

As Tony says, lower power is needed, AMD heads in that direction, but many AMD parts are suitable for blade use since not all requirements are for low power.

Current lower power AMD devices are aimed at laptops and cost more than the blade market wishes to pay.
In addition, it is quite correct that AMD does not have a part for every place that Intel has a part...they are a smaller company, however recenet acquisitions should help the lower power parts enter the blade market in a year or so.
