Not very much, no. There were more religious Jews, even 20 years ago, as a percentage of the population. (The main culprit is intermarriage). But the main groups in American society have been Christians and "post- Christian" seculars, probably since the Founding.

Among the Christians, of course, there are various denominations, beliefs, and intensities of belief. The largest denomination is Roman Catholic, although there are more Protestants, generically. As you know, I am sure, some denominations, while still immersed in Christian symbols, are liberal in their theology, or have a range of opinion. Nevertheless, they all respect the culture- shaping power of Christianity, and derive some inspiration from it.

It seems reasonable to still refer to the the U.S. as a "Christian nation," in the same context as referring to Saudi Arabia as a "Muslim nation."

True or false?

Islam is to Saudi Arabia as Christianity is to the US.
Saudi Arabia is to Islam as the US is to Christianity.
Saudi Arabia is to Muslim as the US is to Christian.
Saudi Arabia is to Muslim as Uganda is to Christian.
Judaism is to Israel as Christianity is to Uganda.
Confucianism is to China as Christianity is to the US.

Hmmmm.

The US has a Christian tradition.
The majority of Americans are Christians.
The US is not a Christian country.
