As you know, you and I disagree on airlift capability, but I'll leave that discussion for another time and place.

perhaps we can agree on this.
the original C17 fleet to replace the C141 was to be 210 aircraft. clinton's budget cuts reduced that to 120 C17s.
6 years ago when the cuts were made, USAF said they need to keep 230 C141s to make up the difference and to meet their assigned missions.
today, approx 45 C141s are still mission capable and about 80 C17s. i mentioned earlier about 30 C17s are in maintenance everyday...part of that is retrofitting new gear.
the remaining C141s are going out by next year due to wing cracks.

i recall the lift needed to move the 82nd Airborne Division was calculated at over 1000 C141 sorties and about 200 C17 sorties...at today's strength, that would take a week and completely tie up the entire USAF lift for just one unit.
