Re: So, milo, can we assume that AMD had 4 out of, say, 4,000,000 servers last year?

And if they sell 8 next year, they'll have 100% growth in the segment! Wow!

Re: Actually there's more than 3. Point was AMD had ZERO prior to Athlon
So, milo, can we assume that AMD had 4 out of, say, 4,000,000 servers last year?

AMD's entry into the server market has been pretty low profile. But take a look at the listings for Dual processor ATX motherboards at this link:
allstarshop.com

AMD boards outnumber Intel boards 5 to 2. Now, much of this discrepancy is due to the fact that an awful lot of servers come from Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc., so that what's reflected in sales from distributors accounts for only a small segment of the market.

I picked Allstarship because they have a much higher customer satisfaction rating than most such shops (from resellerratingss.com - a site that, tragically, has been shut down).

But where AMD is allowed to compete (and hasn't been temporarily blocked by Intel extortion), it seems to be doing quite well.

AMD's server business is growing steadily, putting into place a track record and gaining the confidence of fast growing small and medium sized businesses.
