i think what you said about the long bull market in the stock market has a lot to do with the correlation between US/TY/SP. i am going to look for some historic charts now online since i don't have the data. i would think that in a bear market in stocks or even the US for that matter would change the correlations between the US/TY/SP. the trick would be to notice these changes as they are happening. (that's always the trick huh? ;)

intermarket relationships seem to work out over a longer time period. intramarket relationships work themselves through in shorter time frames. take a looksy at 15min/5min charts of the financials or the grain complex. a strong move in one of the products usually moves the others in the same direction. especially if they are pit traded products.
