I guess if you leave enough gold out of gold jewelry, it might affect demand ?

"The first-ever market survey of gold jewellers in eight cities, conducted by the Bureau of Indian Standards has shaken the very basis on which gold jewellery is purchased by consumers in India: trust. The results, showing that 88 per cent of the jewellers surveyed cheated on the purity of gold sold by them"

Actually technically speaking (It's my last refuge), the inmates always run these asylums, but it's OUR asylum and anyway who made anyone boss?

It's about manufacturing consent. (Convolutedly)

Nobody is paying us to post. Pay me to post and I will say anything you want, be you DAK or BJ or whomever.

Ye canna manufacture opinion. You canna keep it interesting if you make it boring.

I don't know what the limits would be or who would make them. All I know is that it was no fun to post your own handbills in Stalin's Russia.

I used to "love" the old usenet when pretentious, silly, stultified, anal thread monitors would come on to posters and tell them what they could say and not say on misc.invest misc.canada.invest and say things like "The Internet is not a democracy" etc etc.. What a bunch of goons. Either the Internet suffers the tragedy of the commons or it doesn't. It is self limiting. Advertising on it does not pay, so you can ignore spam.

These posting threads are as good as it gets. This is true gonzo people's journalism. As long as they remain free they are good. No matter what is said, it can be said. We will see pontificators, pedants, windbags, paranoiacs, deviants and agendas. You may read, complain, hold forth or keep your counsel. At least people read us and occasionally we can say what will never get in the national news because what they say is 6 months out of date, propaganda, pusillanimous and paid for by people with vested interests.

I would defend to the death DAK's right to say his piece. Occasionally if he should interfere with mine I would like to hunt him down and kill him. On the other hand that is a lot of effort and I don't think it will ever come to pass.

Bob sez: "I guess we now know what happens when the inmates attempt to run the asylum. Nothing."

Have to say I can't hold this in any longer...
Have you noticed not ONE soul on here (besides akak) will admit to watching the Washington Post-Patriot luncheon by the "Eat and then Gotta Run" courtesy of CNN splat?

I'll be the first non-luddite to confess. THAT WAS AN ABYSMAL and EMBARRASSING performance by Smurf et al...

I couldn't believe it---it was so bad.

The only one who acted like a grown-up on there was that Powell dude...He was comfortable and looked like he was running for office of Bush's Press Secretary, fielding planted questions, deflecting unwanted babblers in the audience, etc.

But the playing without his helmet for too many games Murphy was a repeated series of fumbles. And I can also see how he played wide receiver...he was always wide of his mark, couldn't find his papers on the podium, keep running back to his plate to retrieve various scribbled on placemats during his lectern time, etc. It is easy to see why he didn't last in his football career...Bill is STILL dropping the ball or more aptly, he's in one place and the ball is in another "court."

And then there was that Fitts broad...LORDY!!! She kept talking about targets, bullseye's and her little mainstreet in OK-F**k-me-now-Key Swampland back-home schtick. And she helped clean up "what?" The S&L mess??? She was a double embarrassment...no make that a triple one...1) womanhood, 2) GATA, 3) Price of Gold in general--in no particular order. She didn't even have the decency to be bedecked in gold jewelry for the event.

That piece of film will go down in infamy along with the outtakes from Mary Poppins, mark my golden words.

Ayup, Bob, you said it perfectly: "I guess we now know what happens when the inmates attempt to run the asylum. Nothing."
