Ever wonder where the Golden Rule came from Frederick ?

Was it first spoken by Jesus ?
No , it goes a little farther back than that to the concept of "Ahimsa" or
non-violence which is the basic tenent of Hinduism .

There is a precious sect of Hindus called the Jaina or "Jains" , that are incredibly strict and evermindful of not harming any living thing .

One of their great Teachers and founders Mahavira , lived
just a little before the time of Buddha in the 6th century BCE....a very small sect , and yet was very potent influence on shaping much of the Indian
religious thought .

The Golden Rule , we know was spoken by Mahavira in the 6th Century BCE , and the strictist form of asceticism was practiced by the Jaina's .

But known only to the Christians as "Idol Worshippers " , but they are so much more .

A good read on Saint Mahavira , a very good fellow to know about .

A St Francis of Assisi , but nearly 2000yrs earlier in India.
