Morgan Stanley: A substantial dollar devaluation is approaching for the USA
Monday 25 February 2002, 20:24 o'clock

DUESSELDORF (dpa AFX) - the USA expects according to Morgan
Stanley a substantial devaluation of the dollar in the near future. " the
U.S. currency is strongly overestimated and can fall in the next two years
between 20 and 30 per cent ", said the chief political economist of the
Investmenbank, Stephen Roach, the "HandelsBlatt " (Tuesday).

Both the American consumers and the entrepreneurs lived over their
conditions, therefore the country 2003 with a deficit on the balance of
payments on current account of six per cent will have to live. Will hardly
succeed to finance the deficit fully. It is not therefore only to be counted
on a clearly weaker dollar. Also the interest itself could rise with small
inflation, in order to lure far foreign cash in the country, said
Roach./ho/js/hi /
