I agree that extrapolating from January to the entire year is completely misleading. Also, I would figure home sales would be up quite a bit this year, because unemployment has skyrocketed. A lot of people would relocate, or just sell. Inventory compared to last Jan. is up 14%. Cheap interest rates and slightly declining prices have helped keep the sales rates in line (judging from Seattle at least).

Next month if seasonal factors play a negative role then the number will be thrown out as an outlier. As opposed to an out-and-out liar...
