American Power Conversion Simplifies Power Infrastructure Management with New Proactive, Real-time Software
Enterprise Manager v3.0 Enables Users to Manage Multiple APC PowerStruXure(TM) Systems From One Console
biz.yahoo.com
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In today's environment, many IT managers are faced with the challenge of finding new ways to maximize the performance and availability of their network by leveraging their current infrastructure. To address this need, American Power Conversion (APC) today announced a comprehensive power infrastructure management solution, Enterprise Manager v3.0. APC's Enterprise Manager v3.0 helps network managers increase efficiency and avoid downtime by providing real-time enterprise-level management. Users can proactively monitor, configure, and assess their entire APC power infrastructure, including APC's new scalable data center architecture, PowerStruXure, from a single console.

``APC continues to set the standard by which all power infrastructure management software is judged,'' said Rob Johnson, vice president of APC's Availability Enhancement Group. ``No management tool on the market today provides the same ability for an IT administrator to assess the status of their power infrastructure at a glance. With Enterprise Manager's real-time status display, threshold alarming, and robust reporting and planning tools IT administrators can, for the first time, quickly, easily, and inexpensively manage the power infrastructure of larger networks.''

Enterprise Manager v3.0 offers IT managers unique, real time management and inventory reporting tools to help them maximize the efficiency and availability of their power infrastructure. Features of this new software include:

Real-time Status and Event Notification -- Eliminate the unknown or unexpected with the ability to view status of APC devices on the network at-a- glance and receive notification when there is a change;
Failure Analysis Report -- Maximize the availability of the network with reports that help determine the necessary runtime and pinpoint uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) with inadequate runtime. In addition, these reports also measure the availability of the UPSs supporting the network by tracking total UPS downtime to help identify problem areas;
Predictive Battery Failure Reporting -- Reduce a major risk of downtime, i.e., battery failure, by creating detailed reports on battery age, load, health and more to facilitate the timely replacement of UPS batteries;
Manage Multiple APC PowerStruXure Systems -- Fully integrated for use with APC's new, revolutionary power infrastructure architecture; Recommended Actions -- Reduce the need for training and accelerate troubleshooting with diagnosing features that display the probable cause of a power event and recommend a course of action to correct the problem; and
Inventory Management -- Instantly and easily create detailed reports outlining each APC device on the network, which helps simplify annual UPS budgeting.
Enterprise Manager v3.0 is built on a robust SQL database and is capable of managing up to 10,000 devices connected on a large corporate network, including APC's new PowerStruXure, Smart-UPS®, Symmetra® and Silcon® UPS, as well as APC's MasterSwitch(TM) managed outlet strips. Enterprise Manager v3.0 is capable of monitoring and managing UPSs with an APC Network Management Card or servers running PowerChute® Business Edition or PowerChute plus.

Enterprise Manager v3.0 is currently available in 25 node, 100 node, 1,000 node and 10,000 node versions through APC's Factory Store, partners and resellers. An upgrade version for current owners of PowerChute Inventory Manager v2.0 is also available.

Additional information on APC's Enterprise Manager and PowerStruXure can be found on APC's web site at apc.com or by calling APC at 800-877-4080.

American Power Conversion To Reduce Global Work Force by 17%
biz.yahoo.com
WEST KINGSTON, R.I. -- American Power Conversion Corp. (APCC) will cut about 17% of its global work force, a move expected to save the computer-equipment maker $10 million annually.

A spokeswoman said late Thursday that the company will lay off between 1,000 to 1,050 employees. At the end of 2001, American Power, which makes surge protectors and backup power supplies for computers and networks, had about 6,200 workers.

Much of the work-force reduction will occur in the Philippines , where American Power is consolidating manufacturing operations, closing a plant in the province of Laguna....

Responding to my own post of 2/25/2002 (post #2496).

I predicted a channel of $12 and $18. My latest sense is that a new channel is forming between $9 and $15.

We could blast through $15 briefly this coming week but the channel will suck the price down again.

APCC is *still* a great company and I *still* don't regret getting out at $16 in early 2001. If APCC breaks $9 to the downside it will be worth another look.
