I don't buy Walter's reason for HP shareholders to vote no. HP needs Compaq and the HP BOD knows that. If the merger goes through, HP will be a stronger company in the future.

I also think Compaq is presently positioned to bounce back with any economic recovery. Compaq shares will bounce back faster without the HP merger.

My investment in Compaq has been long term. I am now looking at a long term Vs a short term horizon. HP merger Vs Compaq as a stand alone company. The HP merger is the better long term strategy, but I feel better about the short term Compaq picture. That feeling is strongly influence by my possible short term need for cash. <G>
