I really have to give Seybold credit for staying on top of the pricing for TDMA data vs. CDMA data. This year, we will see who can deliver an economic return in wireless voice and data market. The real, economic case for CDMA is beginning to become evident.

Thornley slide presentation on data pricing

I have not seen a link posted here to a Feb 22 presentation by Tony Thornley (pres and coo of qcom) to the CTM Executive Round Table. I'm not even sure what CTM stands for...

qualcomm.com

The topic is wireless data, and associated business models. Related to the Seybold pricing article, the last slide here provides a comparison of different current pricing plans for data, and states that $1 per MB is the "affordability threshold" for 3G, at:

qualcomm.com

(unfortunately I couldn't even decipher the symbol for the last company mentioned in the rightmost portion of the graph).

The rest of the presentation has been seen in one form or another, as it stresses the numbers from the white paper on the economics of wireless, showing considerably lower cost per MB with 1X and 1X-DO compared to all other alternatives. The presentation also stresses BREW and its potential.
