What evidence are you seeing that things are still deteriorating?

I agree things have rebounded. However, I expect a double dip. Housing is a bubble, consumers are overleveraged, stocks valuations are way to high, and our balance of payments is way too high which will lead to a weakening of the dollar. See Stephen Roach for the beginning of an explanation.

If anyone is interested in a little optimism, the article below suggests that the dark ages will pass at some point. The post is from Brian on the GLW Thread, and it is an article on the subject of fiber optics, which of course is related to the long term growth prospects for AMAT:

ST Trading: have been having some luck trading AMAT lately. Sold recently at 44.75, bought back at 43 1/8, and just sold again today at 44.85. I guess I have been influenced by the great successes of AD, and also by the argument that the upside in AMAT may be limited near term by valuation and also planned capex cutbacks this year. I am fearful of a major run in AMAT that leaves me behind, however. Trying to learn how to read those zigs and zags.
