I think it is possible (although highly unlikely)...consumer spending to continue to be supported (for years) by a combination of tax cuts, and 401k and home equity liquification....but that would be awfully irrational

Of course, it would also lead to near depression (after that) but whatever...that ain't gonna happen, and you're right...consumer is going to pull the plug on this soon enough
