Natural selection of the species does not occur by an intelligent human selecting the genes to survive and breed but by leaving things to follow a course of least resistance But that's just the point. When we choose to employ heroic efforts, very expensive equipment and drugs, and hundreds of hours of highly trained medical time to save a premature baby with serious health problems rather than letting it die a natural death, that's not following the course of least resistance.
