Ah, but that last one is the question.

Is it short term caring, or long term caring?

It may be that being kind to people today is being unkind to people a hundred years from now.

Let us assume that a baby is born in dire distress, and we have the choice to save it or let it die. Let us further assume, for the sake of argument (and I know we can't know this, but maybe if medical science and brain research advance far enough we will be able to) that if this baby lives it will eventually grow up to murder seven innocent people.

Should we save the baby?
