Israeli leaders yesterday expressed welcome ranging from lukewarm to enthusiastic for a Saudi peace initiative that would normalize relations between Israel and the Arabs in exchange for a withdrawal to pre-1967 lines.

That's much better than Israel's reaction in 1981, when the Saudis proposed the same deal they are proposing today. Back then, Israel reacted to the "peace offensive" by sending F-16s into Saudi Arabia over their oil fields.
