I'm not so sure. I mean, as I noted in my comment on that Deborah Sontag piece in the NYT mag, I would like to see more pessimism on both sides, because that's the only way real concessions will ever come.

btw, on that Dennis Ross issue that Nadine and I were debating, I got this in an email today from someone on her side of the aisle on these questions:

"Dennis Ross retires the varsity number for former policy
maker caught up in apologetics, restatements, op-eds written in the
first person, absurd proposals (we have to tell Arafat that this is
really, really his last chance) and unseemly fingerwagging at people who
have to clean up his messes. Mind you, he had real competition..."

Not only an ugly comment but this person simply does not know this. Tells one much more about this person than about the Palestinians.

I'm sorry, John, but this is an ignorant comment, made by someone who gets all his Mideast information from reading the New York Times. It is not 'ugly' to point out that the other side is preaching hatred if it is true. Read memri.org for a while and see what the PLO says to its constituency in Arabic.

Though in truth, they have been concentrating more on suicide bombing than demographics lately. Did you ever see reviews of The Children's Hour, a children's show on PA TV where little girls sing of growing up to become suicide bombers, and their teachers tell them, bravo?
