Sylvan/Identix Joint Venture Wins Contract From United Airlines to Provide Fingerprint Services

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb 26, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Sylvan/Identix Fingerprinting Centers, a joint venture between Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc. (SLVN, Trade) and Identix Incorporated (IDNX, Trade), announced today that it has been awarded a contract from United Airlines (UAL, Trade) to provide high-quality fingerprint scanning services for up to more than 70,000 UAL employees. United Airlines is the second largest air carrier in the world, with hubs in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and key international gateways in Tokyo, London, Frankfurt, Miami and Toronto. United flies to some 119 destinations in 26 countries.
Utilizing Identix TouchPrint(TM) Live Scan systems, Sylvan/Identix plans to provide employee fingerprinting services at airports throughout the nation to assist United Airlines in the rapid processing of employee background checks as required by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. The contract is expected to be completed by December 6, 2002.

Identix recognizes contributions from the joint venture as a separate line item on its statement of operations.
