Goldman Sachs says that concerns about the co's PSFT 8 upgrade cycle nearing an end are misplaced; firm believes that the co has sold only about 15% of the total upgrade rev opportunity, and says that PSFT should continue to generate substantial rev as the remaining 80% of existing customers upgrade during the next 2-4 years. Maintains ests and Recommended List rating.




08:37 ET WHR Whirlpool raises Q1 outlook (68.25)
Based on the improved U.S. appliance industry conditions in Jan and Feb, WHR expects to post Q1 core earnings increase of 15-20%, implying EPS of $1.27-$1.32 (consensus $1.23).




08:32 ET BRCM Broadcom competition from Intel gets mixed response (34.49)
Intel (INTC) unveiled its E7500 server chipset at its developer forum yesterday; talk of this product had hit Broadcom in the past as its Serverworks product currently dominates the market. In response to the INTC chip, Merrill Lynch said that the E7500 is a competitive solution in its own right, and that Merrill's channel checks indicate that Intel's backing has gone a long way toward market acceptance. However, UBS Warburg saw less of a threat for BRCM, arguing that the Serverworks product offers 3.2 Gbps of bandwidth on the dual frontside bus vs just 1.066 Gbps for the INTC product. UBS reiterated its BUY on BRCM
