tom, i'm actually very risk averse under most circumstances. however, i'm risk shy given the history of post bubble economies.

i look forward to putting this bubble behind us for good so that more rational markets prevail.

imho, you are wise. different terrain requires different vehicles.

>>It will be particularly interesting to see if many of the rugged individualist, do-it-yourselfers from SI will find this delegated approach of mine to be of interest.<<

not nearly enough, imho.

good luck, right or wrong, you are a thinking guy who has applied a reasonable, analytical approach to investing.

don't overlook the tremendous good fortune that has befallen you. ENJOY! :-)

I'm with ya Tom. I finally realize that although I feel I am pretty educated in finance and have confidence in my abilities, investing is not my full time job. I have another full time job, which provides me with my salary. What makes me think that I can do a better job with stolen moments during lunch and after work than a professional whose sole job is to make money for his clients? That conclusion made me seek out a financial planner and begin the discussions. 6 months later, he'd convinced me to shift some money to his firm. I am very pleased with the decision, because now I feel like a huge load has been taken off my shoulders. Now in my stolen moments, I will sometimes call him to talk and bounce ideas around and check up on my allocation, but in general I am at ease. That alone has been worth the management fees.

Tom, I do find your approach of interest. That's why I dropped by.
I guess I'm one of those do-it-yourselfers from SI, but I wouldn't consider myself rugged.
A couple of comments. (1) Going it on your own takes time, a lot of time. In my case I have the time, to others that don't I wouldn't recommend it.
(2) Most of SI is all about tech, that's why it was founded.
I'm not all about tech, although since that was my professional back ground before retiring I tend to talk about it more.
Regards,
HJ
