I do get spooked by anything that suggest the consumer is going to back off spending -- we had a very significant capital goods recession and a very mild consumer recession -- a deepening consumer retrenchment would be very bad news. This is just one number and other indicators have been more positive -- but it is reason enough to reflect on how the near term direction of consumer spending.
