"IP is the underlying technology of the future of telephony," Avaya Chairman and Chief Executive Don Peterson said in a telephone interview. "The question is not whether to go to IP telephony, but when and how. I think this stock has lots of potential. Question is do they have the ability to manage their assets long enough to be around when IP telephony really gets going. Some of the recent stock downturn is just due to Enron accnt'ing issues hanging over the market. Lots of other teleco companies did things like bandwidth swapping that they then booked as revenue, when in fact, it really did not add to the bottom line.
