It's a frigidly cold day in Austin. A 'blue norther' changed... ...the weather overnight from a temperate 80 degrees yesterday to the mid-20s with high winds today. My morning began with C-SPAN coverage of the Skilling/Watkins/McMahon Senate testimony. At 10:30, I left for a meeting with my new clients, a trade association of owners of 240 independent convenience stores. The majority of the members are first-generation immigrants to the U.S. from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are Ismaili. Which is a sect of Shiite Islam. As I left, Skilling was skillfully dodging questions from Barbara Boxer about his sales of $66 million in stock. Two minutes later, at a busy highway intersection traffic signal, next to the convenience store owned by my contact @ the trade association, was the same ragtag trio of homeless men. They are there every day. Rain or shine. Summer and winter. With crude cardboard signs that say, "I'm homeless. I'm hungry. Anything helps. God Bless You.' Today, the young man with a dog on a leash, as usual, looked blue. Shivering. Wrapped in dirty blankets, toboggan hat ... you get the picture. I gave him $20. And my blood pressure and rage went thru the roof. You sanctimonious prick, JLA. And your buddy, Neocon. And all of you a**holes on the RW 'platform' of corrupt politics and U.S. business. How many more are becoming homeless every day that passes, I wonder. Becuase of George W Bush, Ronald Reagan, George H Bush, and their connected elite living behind bullet-proof glass and security services to not only protect their lilly-white weathly asses, but to GROW RICHER, not through methods available to the citizens they represent, such as trading stocks on the open market, but through insider manipulation of laws.
