JC, I saw a 1GHz cryo-cooled Athlon demo-ed about 1 month before the announcement, July 1999. From that we figured that the intro speed would have to be 600 MHz or higher, rather than the 500 MHz most were predicting.

I must have missed this preannouncement. LOL.

Actually, the June 23 date may have been a valid announcement. AMD claims lack of infrastructure delayed the actual shipments. It could be as little as 7 months from demo to first shipments of Hammer.
