engineer:

I wasn't talking about any "conspiracy", or "insider trading", so I apologize if I gave that impression.

I was merely suggesting that the volume of unexercised options - the majority held by employees and not IJ and other management - could be an indication that company employees know these will be worth much more in the future than they are now, and that they are in the best position to know where the business is going. I also noted that there are other possible explanations for the trend I noted, and yours is one.

And for the record, I have held a long position on QCOM since the summer of 2000, and have never held a short position on QCOM. Not on many other stocks either.
