Apparently, having met the buyer up close and personal, they had a great deal less faith in their ability to repay the loan, unlike the great and all-knowing (AKA "I-never- met-a-loan-I-didn't-like) Fannie Mae!

I agree that borrowing against your home to buy stock is beyond irresponsible. I also agree that paying off a mortgage will yield superior returns for most over the next decade.
