Dan,

Thanks for the clarification. Now that I read your response, I can see it in the pamphlet. I always sell covered calls as close to ATM as possible as that is where the demand is and hence usually the best premium. I count my calls as short term if I purchase the calls back. So the rules are straight forward for me. I see the paperwork could get messy if you stumble into the non-qualified covered call territory. I'll definitely stay away from that area in my taxable account. I appreciate the discussion and help from everyone.
