The rhetoric about the Europeans should be limited to companies like Nokia. We are seeing all kinds of strange body language by the carriers. Vodaphone is using CSM/MSM 5200 solutions between Spain and Japan. I would expect Qualcomm to maintain the same market share for MSM/CSM chips in WCDMA that they have in CDMA2000. Who else is there to compete?

Who is using Qualcomm's chipsets for WCDMA terminals? Here are a few ideas from Nortel.

nortelnetworks.com

Nortel Networks is currently working with a number of leading global 2.5 & 3G device suppliers for commercial and pre-commercial device programs. These include Mitsubishi, Motorola, Panasonic and Samsung. In addition to traditional mobile device suppliers, we are also working with a number of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and PC Modular Communication Interface Adapter (PCMCIA) card suppliers, reflecting the shift in focus of our customers from voice to more data-centric devices.

Nortel Networks aims to lower the risk related to terminal availability and to support choice in the terminal portfolio. The idea of choice for terminal types is critical as there are many applications and services to support and several customer segments to serve.
