Dan, I remember trying to install OS/2 on my 486 system back in college. Twenty-six floppy disks of pure "joy." ;-) That was back in early 1994.

After a week, I gave up on OS/2 and decided to wait until Windows 95. I felt the 32-bit features of OS/2, such as the ability to run programs while formatting floppies (curiously a favorite pasttime of OS/2 advocates <g>), wasn't worth the hassle of incompatibilities.

Back to the subject, the only x86-64 OS AMD is going to have for a long time is Linux. Microsoft will not be motivated to release a 64-bit OS for the mainstream. Unless, of course, they foolishly decided to collapse their high margins on their server OSs.
