Hmmm, so what is a "scripted application?" -- a series of benchmarks, perhaps? And was SuSE Linux running anything other than KDE or whatever desktop?

Milo, interesting AMD banner ad @ Anandtech

I was reading the IDF article - the one on Intel and was amused to see an AMD banner ad at the bottom of the screen. It was even more interesting to see it was advertising an XP2100+ for $299.99 here: pcclub.com

EDIT: The 2100+ was not available in the store above.

No general press release but there are four PW entries from $332 to $339, two noting ETAs of 3/14 and 3/21. Oh, and Lynn's isn't one of the early listers so far.

EDIT: The two non-ETA (on PW) entries were the same store and the website listed ETA of 3/14 for OEM and 3/21 for boxed (only slight premium). The

That, in turn, will force Microsoft to accelerate its own 64-bit support for Hammer, Weber said

(From the extremetech article at extremetech.com

TRANSLATION: Yes, Microsoft is supporting Hammer, but we're unhappy with their schedule and expect that functional 64-bit Linux will speed it up.

The comment by Fred Weber that a Hammer processor running 32 bit applications on a 64 bit OS (i.e., SuSe Linux) will run slightly faster than a Hammer processor running 32 bit applications on a 32 bit OS (e.g., Windows XP or 2000). This means that Windows users have an incentive to switch to Linux until Microsoft corrects the situation. That is exactly why he made that statement.
