Hawk,

Re: Tell us King Ray (for a day).. How do you rate GWB's response to the events of 9/11 and how would YOU do things differently??

1) Kudos to GWB on cleaning up Afghanistan. It was a well executed operation. I have no complaints about what has transpired so far. Except to admit that I harbor a suspicion that we may not have pressed for Mullah Omar and Bin Laden's heads quite as aggressively as we might have, because they serve a more cynically useful purpose as "threats" rather than as defeated "enemies" and memories.

2) The U.S., if I were to have a say in things, would be vastly more willing to listen to the rest of humanity. We would not defy efforts to create a World Court because we would not be so sure that we would be eventually in the hot seat like Milosevic. Imagine Ron Reagan as a defendent, for his role in the Iran-Contra affair. A case could be made that he was guilty as sin of crimes against humanity. We ought to be forced to play by the same rules as everyone we are top down preaching to.

3) Some moderation of our hypocrisies. As with the Reagan thing mentioned above, I believe that the U.S. is viewed in the world as a hypocrite. Calling for "free trade" and WTO compliance out of one side of our mouth, and then using our Trade Representative to beat up on competitors when they prove too pesky. With utter disregard for our preachy ideals.

4) I could go on, but a return to a basic level of fair play would be my main theme. Totally and diametrically opposed to the present course of rampant self-dealing. What we are doing now only serves to build resentments and insure more 9/11 type incidents.
