I agree. Nixon screwed-up and deserved what he got...

My real point is that at least he resigned and did not put the country through any more disgrace. Another point to make is that Republicans put pressure on Nixon to resign. I'm sure there was politicking going on but for the most part Republicans were critical of Nixon and urged him to resign. There was a sense of shame on the part of Republicans.

Every scandal is different however, compare how the democrats handled Clinton's scandals and how Republicans handled Nixon. Where was the shame coming from the Democrats? For the most part Democrats hardly wavered in public support for Clinton even while privately denouncing him. Elected Democrats are all about double standards when it comes to scandals. When Democrats stick to helping and supporting the common man they shine brightly. Otherwise, they are more partisan than the Republicans.
