re: some of those record numbers of buyers of existing homes in january got it wrong Almost as wrong as the people taking out home-equity loans, to get all the equity out of their $400K houses, splurge on some ephemeral luxury, (and then maybe have the house value go to where it was 5 years ago, $200K). I get about 4 offers a week in the mail, to do this. Sometimes I think the government ought to ban this, enticing people to do things that stupid. Other times I think, you can't idiot-proof the world.
