"It appears that you stopped after step 2.
Is that correct?" YES

1)Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2)Locate and click the following value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

Remember, I'm running WIN2000 PRO and I do have Norton Antivirus 2002 (version 8.00.58) installed and operating. NAV is operational (last update shows 2/21/02) and I run scans daily and also watch it scan outgoing e-mails... so I know it's working.

Thanks again for your willingness to help. I must admit I'm a coward to mess with the registry as I'm afraid of screwing it up, but I guess I can always reboot with "last good configuration" unless there's a way to reverse what I did.

Since I had no "\VDD\" I didn't click Delete, but I notice in 5)Type VDD in the Value Name box, click REG_MULTI_SZ for the Data Type , and then click OK."... it's the same as yours except for the :C|progra~1\symantec\s323evnt1.dll (I have nothing showing for VDD). I believe I was supposed to click Delete after I got to the "VDD" on the tree, but there is no "VDD"... it ends at \VirtualDeviceDrivers
Many, many thanks for your willingness to help this neophyte.
