Is there a small fund somewhere awaiting further contributions? I have a vague recollection along those lines. If there is, we could try periodically to get additions to it, and instead of feeling defeated at each failure, feel glad at any small advance toward the final goal. Is that a pathetic idea? I don't really remember where things stood. Like, did we have a specific village someplace picked out, or a particular organization, or some contact that's still extant?
