It's also been pointed out that the men who were put on trial for committing the Holocaust, for crimes against humanity, offered many different excuses. They had no choice. They were small cogs in a big machine. They were just following orders. Someone else would have done it if they had refused.

Not one of them said, it didn't happen, you're exaggerating.

They would never have been believed for a minute. Because the evidence on ground was overwhelming, despite the Nazis' frantic efforts to hide it at the end of the war. So they didn't try.
