Elmer,

Frankly, I'm in a bit of shock. I never expected this kind of a performance boost. This is an astonishing leap in performance and it is here and available now.

This was so unexpected that the implications are too much to fully consider right now.

Whatever the benchmark they were running, the result look impressive, but before we fall over each other, I think more than a single benchmark need to be looked at, especially the ones that the rest of the world has been using for a while.

Unfortunately, they didn't give any absolute, nor any comparisons with PIII or Athlon. This makes it quite a bit harder to evaluate the validity of the benchmarks, as well as the significance of the score (i.e. if even the improved P4/SMT scores were well below P3 or Athlon, there would be little reason to be excited - if the opposite were the case, however&#133).

It's also possible that something quite simply "went wrong" when they disabled HyperThreading. Without absolute numbers and/or any comparisons it just isn't possible to know.

It could be huge&#133 or it could be nothing.

(and considering that I'm going to be in the market for a few high-performance SQL servers quite soon, I'm certainly interested the outcome)
