Texas Instruments CFO says Q1 wireless ops in line with expectations

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 27, 2002 (AFX-Europe via COMTEX) -- Texas Instruments Inc chief financial officer William Aylesworth said the company's wireless business is performing in line with expectations in the first quarter.
"It is tracking as we expected," he told analysts at the Robertson Stephens conference here. He also said sales within the division will be flat to slightly higher on a quarterly basis.

The comments point to a stabilisation in the global phone market, a industry which has been suffering from a slowdown in subscriber growth over the last few quarters. TI's wireless chips are found in around two thirds of the world's mobile phones.

Aylesworth's comments echo those of Qualcomm Inc, which earlier this week said shipments of chips used in mobile phones will come in at the upper end of its previous forecast.

Aylesworth also said orders across TI's business are on target, while inventories are "in pretty good shape".
