minnow, you've found the main reason that Intel doesn't want HTh on the desktop yet: For example, the 50 MB windows media encoding on a dual Xeon took 2:34 without HT. It took 3:03 with HT turned on. Turning HT on slowed things down by 18%!!!

WME is used as the background application in Sysmark 2001 and 2002, as well as the Content Creation benchmark. Intel does this because a Microsoft bug, never fixed, prevent WME from enabling SSE on AMD XP CPU's. They are caught between a rock and a hard place because, if MS fixes the benchmark to do "better" with HTh, they will be obligated to fix the SSE bug also.
