Apparently, Reagan's inability to control the profligate spending of the Dem Congress means he ran it into the ground, in demolib speak.........

He ran it into the ground by saying he was for the people when really he was for big business. He dropped envrionmental controls, he allowed lax banking laws ie the S&Ls (god remember resolution trust), spent enormous amounts of money on Star Wars. For me, the 80s were okay for business, not great, always on shaky ground, lots of tenants going bankrupt. I'm not an economics professor, I just go by my experience. I did better work wise under clinton, than either Reagan or Bush.
