In that case, would not the comparison be between 1processor vs (2 real processors + 2 virtual processors)? Would that not explain the surprising scores? I have a dual processor Celeron system and no BIOS option for MP. I have to load W2000 with the "single processor" switch for it to ignore the other processor. EP

Now, which 'switch' is that? I doubt that the BIOS has a switch for HTh, something like: Hyperthreading On/Off I don't know this particular BIOS, but why could there not be such a s/w? It's very usual for the BIOS to write to "special" CPU registers to selectively turn CPU features on/off. since the BIOS itself is fooled into seeing 4 processors. Not true. Remember, the BIOS sees everything. I doubt that the BIOS would see a two processor system if HT was turned on, on a single processor system. Particularly, as it's the BIOS that turns on the second processor in the first place at boot time. However, what you say does have some merit in it. What, if instead of turning off hyperthreading, the BIOS turned off the second processor and left HT on? The OS would still see 2 processors, but they have no way of knowing if these are 2 HT virtual processors or 2 physical processors. I guess they just took the BIOS at its word :) I doubt that's what's happening, as the INTC spooks would know that HT could not account for that type of performance improvement and would have posted here that something was wrong with the scores or setup ;) TG
