That's quite a list, Mitch,

I'm thinking about the sentient plants (remember "The Thing"? -- I believe it was a based on a real incident <gg>)

There are estimated to be more stars than all the grains of sand on all the world's beaches and deserts. We have begun to detect planetary systems around some nearby stars. As a matter of probability, the number of planets in the universe capable of supporting life (as we understand life) must be far beyond imagination. To believe that human beings are necessarily the highest life-form in the universe would seem to be the height of ignorance or arrogance. If we deny the existence of supernatural beings, we can only define "supernatural" by our own observations of what is natural, limited to this planet. It seems to me that by that definition, the universe is likely to contain all manner and sorts of supernatural beings, with natures, characteristics, or powers far beyond the scope of our comprehension.

Or not.

If so, though, why does "God" seem so implausible to some?
